A winter light experience

Aurora is a unique traveling light experience that features 10 light and media installations inspired by the Aurora Borealis. Aurora debuted in Bruges in 2023 at 'Wintergloed' and is the highlight of the winter season drawing millions of visitors to the city. Aurora takes the visitor on a 2.5km experience walk through the Unesco city and its canals. The light and media installations offer a mix of interactivity, amazement and thrilling moments. Connected by a blue glow, each installation immerses you in a different, allowing you to experience a moment of emotion and wonder. Here are some of the highlights:

Story of the Swan: Immerse yourself in this poetic love story of two swans on Bruges' waterways. The vista of the canals makes for a unique performance that is sure to create a moment of wonder.

Submerged: Mystery, beauty and wonder, you are submerged in the magic of the underwater world and look up to enjoy the spectacle unfolding on the surface.

Tree of Life: A holographic circle represents an artistic interpretation of the canals that provides life for the trees. Reflection, fog and projection on and beside the water show an enchanting story.

Grid: An audiovisual spectacle with beams of light that form a dynamic grid over the canals of Bruges.

A 2.5km trail through the UNESCO city

During this winter festival in Bruges, we wanted to captivate the audience and immerse them in a winter atmosphere without adhering to traditional Christmas colors. We opted for a surprising and contemporary interpretation: AURORA, a glow throughout the city that is open to multiple interpretations.

"AURORA" is perceptible throughout the entire Winter Glow route and utilizes a consistent color palette. On one hand, it is reflected in the pathway lighting, creating an ambiance and glow across the entire city. On the other hand, it is manifested in impressive installations that provide substance and intense emotion to the overall experience.

Each setup is an engaging experience for a broad audience and provides a deeper layer for those seeking added value.

The story of the swans‍

An enchanting storytelling installation with a holographic projection on a water curtain. The installation narrates a poetic love story of two swans on the Bruges canals presented in a contemporary manner. This visual spectacle is an absolute highlight along the trail.

Submerged‍

An immersive installation where you walk beneath the water surface. The transparent holographic mesh cloth gives the visitor a sense of being under water. Schools of fish create a visually synchronous and intriguing spectacle above the heads of the visitors.
